When Sophie and James first visited Pembroke Lodge on a grey February afternoon, they knew instantly that this was where they wanted to celebrate their love. The view from The Belvedere — rolling parkland giving way to the Thames Valley — sealed the decision before they’d even seen the full tour.
Five months later, on the longest day of the year, one hundred of their closest friends and family gathered beneath the Georgian portico as afternoon light filtered through the old wisteria. The ceremony was held outdoors, just as they’d dreamed.
The Ceremony
Sophie arrived through the Italian Garden, bouquet of garden roses and jasmine trailing in her hand. James waited under the pergola, flanked by two ancient oaks that have stood for over three hundred years. Their vows were personal, unhurried, punctuated only by birdsong and the distant murmur of deer in the park below.

A string quartet played Debussy as guests moved from terrace to reception — champagne in hand, the June sun warming the Portland stone beneath their feet. It was the kind of evening that felt suspended in time.
“We wanted something that felt effortless and timeless. Pembroke Lodge gave us that without us having to try — it’s already magic.”
The Reception
Inside The Belvedere, long tables were dressed with wild meadow flowers — cornflowers, poppies, and cow parsley gathered that morning from the surrounding parkland. Candles cast a warm glow as the sky outside shifted from gold to violet.
The menu, designed by our head chef in collaboration with the couple, featured seasonal British produce: hay-smoked trout to start, followed by herb-crusted lamb with garden vegetables, and a lemon posset with elderflower shortbread to finish. Every dish told a story of the English countryside that surrounded them.

The Evening
As night fell, the party spilled onto the terrace. Festoon lights threaded between the columns, a jazz band took over from the quartet, and the couple shared their first dance to Ella Fitzgerald’s “At Last” — a choice that drew every guest to their feet.
At midnight, the last guests drifted through the park, Richmond’s ancient oaks silhouetted against a sky full of stars. It was, by every measure, a perfect midsummer night.
“The team at Pembroke Lodge made everything feel so natural. We didn’t worry about a single thing — we just enjoyed every moment.”
